abstract = {The recent advancements in sensing technology have opened up the possibilities for various services that support daily life, such as energy-saving home appliance control. To realize such services, accurate and cost-effective daily living activity recognition in a wide range is essential. To actualize such a system, it is imperative to address the following requirements: the acquisition of sensors entails very high costs (Issue 1), it is hard to achieve precise recognition for location-independent activities like reading a book (Issue 2), a burden of wearing devices from the perspective of residents (Issue 3), and the preservation of residents’ privacy is compromised by using image data from the camera (Issue 4). In this paper, we propose a method for recognizing daily living activities utilizing Doppler sensors in a relatively longer detection range than other motion detection sensors that can be used for dynamic objects. We assess the proposed system by optimizing recognition accuracy, evaluating ensemble methods, and examining sensor reduction’s impact. In the first assessment, the logistic regression achieved the highest accuracy of 65.99% in the leave-one-person-out cross-validation. The second assessment revealed an accuracy of 59.39% for the parallel activity recognition method and 57.24% for the joint recognition method of location and activity. In the third assessment, logistic regression achieved a recognition accuracy of 65.26% when four sensor nodes were used: two sensors were placed on both sides of a participant, another was diagonally behind the participant, and the other was installed on the ceiling.},

abstract = {In 2014, the above paper entitled ‘Quasi-Linear Support Vector Machine for Nonlinear Classification’ was published by Zhou, et al. [1]. They proposed a quasi-linear kernel function for support vector machine (SVM). However, in this letter, we point out that this proposed kernel function is a part of multiple kernel functions generated by well-known multiple kernel learning which is proposed by Bach, et al. [2] in 2004. Since then, there have been a lot of related papers on multiple kernel learning with several applications [3]. This letter verifies that the main kernel function proposed by Zhou, et al. [1] can be derived using multiple kernel learning algorithms [3]. In the kernel construction, Zhou, et al. [1] used Gaussian kernels, but the multiple kernel learning had already discussed the locality of additive Gaussian kernels or other kernels in the framework [4], [5]. Especially additive Gaussian or other kernels were discussed in tutorial at major international conference ECCV2012 [6]. The authors did not discuss these matters.},

abstract = {The estimation of points of interest (POI) categories is essential in several contexts, such as land use estimation, POI and itinerary recommendation in the tourism sector, and so on. Most of these approaches are based on well-known POIs and use information such as people’s mobility or check-in data. This information is not or rarely available for lesser-known POIs. However, these lesser-known POIs cannot be ignored because of this lack of information, as they may be important to local people in terms of their culture and history and worth discovering by tourists or local authorities. To address this challenge, we propose an approach based on the techniques of coupling the syntactic and semantic analysis of data via a knowledge graph using Few-shot learning (FSL) and Light Graph Convolution Network (LightGCN). The FSL technique allows us to work with very little data, which not only works with lesser-known POIs but also reduces the complexity in terms of tasks and execution time. The results show that our approach outperforms the baseline approaches and that considering the semantic aspect of the data via Linked Open Data (LOD) significantly improves the results of the approach based on the syntactic analysis alone.},

abstract = {Quadriplegics face a communication obstacle as their physical abilities are restricted, leaving them unable to speak or use their limbs, with only their upper neck being mobile. So, we propose a recognition system and a new communication language utilizing Morse code and head movements, to break this barrier. We aim to overcome the limitations of camera-based and wearable-sensor methods, including occlusion, privacy concerns, and user inconvenience. The goal is to passively detect quadriplegics’ head movements and map them to their corresponding character. The dataset including all 26 alphabet letters, was gathered in various settings, including single-user and multi-human environments, with multiple locations for each setting. For evaluation, 2% samples are randomly selected from the unseen environment to be used with the seen environment as a training dataset. abstract = {Autonomous vehicles are an essential tool for promoting the development of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and can effectively reduce traffic accidents caused by human errors. As an important part of the automatic driving software system, path planning is responsible for generating the motion trajectory of the vehicle, which is the primary factor determining driving quality. However, solution space construction and optimization problem formulation remain challenging research areas in the field of path planning. In this paper, we propose a multi-objective optimization algorithm for static obstacle avoidance to improve the comfort, safety and anti-deviation of the planned trajectory. We decouple the lateral and longitudinal motion of the vehicle using the Frenet frame and discretize the driving state space to generate target states of the vehicle. Based on the initial and target states, we generate a set of lateral and longitudinal motion trajectories using quintic and quartic polynomials, respectively. In addition, we design a cost function that comprehensively considers the comfort, safety, and deviation distance of the road center line by combining an acceleration check, curvature check, and collision check. As part of the cost function, we propose a novel method to quantify the safety of candidate trajectories considering the size of obstacles. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can quantize the safety of candidate paths and improve comfort 13.47%, 32.19%, 59.36% and 18.60% on a straight road, curvy road, intersection and U-shaped road, respectively. Furthermore, the algorithm can improve anti-deviation by 63.72%, 13.86%, 44.36%, and 45.56% on a straight road, curvy road, intersection and U-shaped road, respectively.},

abstract = {Litter has become a social problem. To prevent litter, we consider urban planning, the efficient placement of garbage bins, and interventions with litterers. In order to carry out these actions, we need to comprehensively grasp the types and locations of litter in advance. However, with the existing methods, collecting the types and locations of litter is very costly and has low privacy. In this research, we have proposed the conceptual design to estimate the types and locations of litter using only the sensor data from a smartwatch worn by the user. This system can record the types and locations of litter only when a user raps on the litter and picks it up. Also, we have constructed a sound recognition model to estimate the types of litter by using sound sensor data, and we have carried out experiments. We have confirmed that the model built with other people’s data enabled to estimate the F-measure of 80.2% in a noisy environment through the experiment with 12 participants.},

abstract = {Mid-air images in a three-dimensional space beyond a screen enable users to observe virtual content without wearing any devices. When using a symmetrical mirror structure with dual slit-mirror arrays, the system enables the display of a large mid-air image by integrating multiple imaging paths. However, in the mirror design used in previous research, the luminance was discontinuous. In this study, we propose a novel tabletop system in which a tall mid-air image with continuous luminance is superimposed onto physical objects. Our proposed system, called “AIR-range”, presents mid-air images that appear seamlessly from the table surface to mid-air. By theorizing the relationship between the parameters of optical systems and luminance of mid-air images, we optimized the optical systems to minimize the difference in luminance between the imaging paths. The results of the comparison with the previous method showed an improvement in luminance continuity.},

abstract = {Given the complexity of human eating behaviors, developing interactions to change the way users eat or their choice of meals is challenging. In this study, we propose an interactive system called eat2pic designed to encourage healthy eating habits such as adopting a balanced diet and eating more slowly, by refraining the task of selecting meals into that of adding color to landscape pictures. The eat2pic system comprises a sensor-equipped chopstick (one of a pair) and two types of digital canvases. It provides fast feedback by recognizing a user's eating behavior in real time and displaying the result on a small canvas called "one-meal eat2pic." Moreover, it also provides slow feedback by displaying the number of colors of foods that the user consumed on a large canvas called "one-week eat2pic." The former was designed and implemented as a guide to help people eat more slowly, and the latter to encourage people to select more balanced menus. Through two user studies, we explored the experience of interaction with eat2pic, in which users' daily eating behavior was reflected in a series of "paintings," that is, images produced by the automated system. The experimental results suggest that eat2pic may provide an opportunity for reflection in meal selection and while eating, as well as assist users in becoming more aware of how they are eating and how balanced their daily meals are. We expect this system to inspire users' curiosity about different diets and ways of eating. This research also contributes to expanding the design space for products and services related to dietary support.},
