abstract = {As society grows ever more interconnected, the need for sophisticated signal processing and data analysis techniques becomes increasingly apparent. This is particularly true in the field of intelligent transportation systems (ITSs), where various sensing applications generate data at an exponential rate. In this paper, we present C-AVDI, a compressive measurement-based acoustic vehicle detection and identification architecture capable of extracting information from vehicle audio signals while sampling at sub-Nyquist rates. In addition, we further reduce the overall complexity by performing any necessary signal filtering during the acquisition process, removing the need for a separate filtering stage in the system’s front-end. Our results obtained from data collected under a range of weather conditions present an accuracy of 80% with a back-end analog-to-digital converter (ADC) sample rate of 3kHz, with initial results from a microcontroller (MCU) implementation of our proposed system presenting an accuracy of 72%.},

abstract = {The emergence of various types of commercial cameras (compact, high resolution, high angle of view, high speed, and high dynamic range, etc.) has contributed significantly to the understanding of human activities. By taking advantage of the characteristic of a high angle of view, this paper demonstrates a system that recognizes micro-behaviors and a small group discussion with a single 360 degree camera towards quantified meeting analysis. We propose a method that recognizes speaking and nodding, which have often been overlooked in existing research, from a video stream of face images and a random forest classifier. The proposed approach was evaluated on our three datasets. In order to create the first and the second datasets, we asked participants to meet physically: 16 sets of five minutes data from 21 unique participants and seven sets of 10 min meeting data from 12 unique participants. The experimental results showed that our approach could detect speaking and nodding with a macro average f1-score of 67.9% in a 10-fold random split cross-validation and a macro average f1-score of 62.5% in a leave-one-participant-out cross-validation. By considering the increased demand for an online meeting due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we also record faces on a screen that are captured by web cameras as the third dataset and discussed the potential and challenges of applying our ideas to virtual video conferences.},

abstract = {Numerous technologies exist for promoting a healthier lifestyle. These technologies collectively referred to as “Behavior Change Support Systems”. However, the majority of existing apps use quantitative data representation. Since it is difficult to understand the meaning behind quantitative data, this approach has been suggested to lower users’ motivation and fail to promote behavior change. Therefore, an interpretation of quantitative data needs to be provided as a supplement. However, different descriptions of the same data may lead to different outcomes. In this paper, we explore the impact of different communication styles for interpretations of quantitative data on behavior change by developing and evaluating Walkeeper – a web-based app that provides interpretations of the users’ daily step counts using different levels of elaborateness and indirectness with the aim of promoting walking. Through the quantitative analysis and results of a user study, we contribute new knowledge on designing such interpretations for quantitative data.},

abstract = {Some respondents make careless responses due to the “satisficing,” which is an attempt to complete a questionnaire as quickly and easily as possible. To obtain results that reflect a fact, detecting satisficing and excluding the responses with satisficing from the analysis targets are required. One of the devised methods detects satisficing by adding questions that check violations of instructions and inconsistencies. However, this approach may cause respondents to lose their motivation and prompt them to satisficing. Additionally, a deep learning model that automatically answers these questions was reported. This threatens the reliability of the conventional method. To detect careless responses without inserting such screening questions, machine learning (ML) detection using data obtained from answer results was attempted in a previous study, with a detection rate of 55.6%, which is not sufficient from the viewpoint of practicality. Therefore, we hypothesized that a supervised ML model with a higher detection rate could be constructed by using on-screen answering behavior as features. However, (1) no existing questionnaire system can record on-screen answering behavior and (2) even if the answering behavior can be recorded, it is unclear which answering behavior features are associated with satisficing. We developed an answering behavior recording plug-in for LimeSurvey, an online questionnaire system used all over the world, and collected a large amount of data (from 5,692 people) in Japan. Then, a variety of features were examined and generated from answering behavior, and we constructed ML models to detect careless responses.We call this detection method the ML-ABS (ML-based answering behavior scale). Evaluation by cross-validation demonstrated that the detection rate for careless responses was 85.9%, which is much higher than the previous ML method. Among the various features we proposed, we found that reselecting the Likert scale and scrolling particularly contributed to the detection of careless responses.},

abstract = {The analysis of the movement of people in a shopping area with the aim of improving marketing is an important research topic. Many conventional methods are dependent on the density of people in the area, which is easily estimated by counting the people entering or exiting the area. However, a high density does not always mean an increase in activity, as certain people are simply passing the area at a given time. The primary goal of this study was to introduce a set of indicators for measuring the bustle of the area, which we call “Nigiwai,” from pedestrian movement by using an analogy from classical kinematics. Such indicators can be used to measure the impact of promotional events and to optimize the design of the area. Our novel indicators were evaluated with simulated pedestrian scenarios and were demonstrated to distinguish shopping scenarios from those in which people move around without shopping successfully, even when the latter scenarios had much higher densities. The indicators were computed solely from the pedestrian trajectory, which can easily be obtained from ordinary sensors using deep learning-based techniques. As a demonstration with real data, we applied our method to a video of a street and provided a visualization of the indicators.},

abstract = {Maintaining hand hygiene is the one of the most effective way to prevent the spread of germs during a pandemic. This paper focuses on encouraging people to use a hand sanitizer more frequently by applying the nudge theory to improve hand hygiene behavior in private organizations. We propose a system that recognizes hand hygiene behavior using face recognition and detects hand sanitizer use. The system responds to the user's personal hand hygiene behavior with animation of a virtual bonsai as an interactive agent. To preserve user privacy, we implemented the system on an edge device and conducted experiments for 4 case studies in 2 real-world organizations. The results showed that the system improved the hand hygiene behavior of people in a private organization.},

abstract = {When working from home, self-management becomes of paramount importance due to the absence of a boss or colleagues. As a result, individuals tend to waste time surfing the internet and playing with our smartphones. We propose a wrist-worn sensor-based system that identifies whether a desk worker is working or not for self-management and productivity. Our main hypothesis is that the identification of the various tasks that occur during desk work, such as using computers, reading books, manipulating a smartphone, and writing, can be simply distinguished by the direction of the palm. In this paper, to verify our hypothesis, we measure various tasks with the wrist-worn sensor attached to clarify the relationship between hand orientation and each task. At the same time, we develop a machine learning-based classifier to distinguish between the states of `working' and `not-working' using the obtained hand orientation data. We performed 10-fold cross-validation and Leave-One-Person-Out validation and we found that it was possible to distinguish whether a desk worker is working or not with an F1-value of 0.8 or higher.},

abstract = {新型コロナウイルスの流行に伴い,企業や学校等でオンラインコミュニケーションツールへの移行が進んでいる.しかしながら,対面での接触機会の減少が,組織全体でのコミュニケーションの減少やワーク・エンゲイジメントの低下を引き起こしている.そこで,我々は能動的にランダムなユーザへの質問を行うボットの導入による,コミュニケーション活性化やワーク・エンゲイジメント向上に関する研究を行なった.具体的には,主要なオンラインコミュニケーションツールである,Slack におけるボットがもたらす,能動的な質問,回答の共有が,組織全体のコミュニケーションやワーク・エンゲイジメントに与える影響について調査を行なった.本発表では,研究室の Slack に導入した能動型質問ボットが与える影響について,Slack でのユーザごとのメッセージ送信数や,リアクション数等による定量的評価とユーザへのアンケートによる定性的評価から報告を行う.また,本研究で明らかとなった結果から,ユーザからの回答を引き出す質問ボット開発への新たな知見についても報告を行う.},

abstract = {アンケートにおいて,なるべく楽に早くタスクを完了しようとする「Satisficing(努力の最小限化)」という態度により,結果の信頼性が低下する問題がある.より正確な結果を得るためには,Satisficingを検出して分析対象から除外するなどの前対処が必要となる.これまでに,回答時間に基づく検出手法や,指示違反や矛盾を問う質問群を追加する手法が考案されてきた.しかし,前者では回答時間を故意に水増しした回答を適切に除外することができない.また,後者は回答者を疑ってスクリーニングするようなものであり,回答者のモチベーションを損ねてSatisficingを助長してしまう原因となる.そこで我々は,回答時間だけでなく回答中の画面操作を利用することで,より高精度にSatisficingが検出可能になるのではないかという仮説を立てた.しかしながら,(1)画面操作が記録可能なアンケートシステムが存在しない,(2)記録できたとしてどのような特徴がSatisficingと関連しているのか不明であった.そこで,我々は世界中で利用されているLimeSurvey用の画面操作記録プラグインを開発し,多人数(5692人)の様々な画面操作ログを収集して,機械学習によるSatisficing検出を行なった.Leave One Out交差検証による評価の結果,検出率は85.9%を達成し,同様のタスクに取り組んだ先行研究の検出率55.6%を大幅に上回るものとなった.また,本稿で新たに提案した特徴量の中では,スクロールに関連する特徴の寄与率が高い一方で,テキストの削除に関する特徴の寄与率は低い結果となった.},
